My Life and Work Henry Ford
I have read literally hundreds of books on management, production, operations and lean. I had not even heard of this book until a few years ago and when I was finally able to read it, I realized that this was the mother lode. This is the single best book ever written on lean manufacturing and plant operations.
One hundred years ago Henry Ford invented all of the techniques that we think we got from the Japanese in the 80's and 90's. We did, but only because the Japanese had gotten them from Henry Ford.
This book had been out of print in English for more than 75 years. It has never been out of print in Japanese.
In 2006 I corrected this problem by having it reissued in a nice paper binding with a new introduction by yours truly. This may be the only book you will ever need on lean manufacturing.
